This changes how the metal is compressed and causes internal voids to form.

Another common mistake is not properly cleaning oxidized conductors, especially with aluminum wiring. The conductor should be wire brushed just before insertion to remove the non-conductive oxide layer which naturally forms on the surface of the metal.

How to Get Perfect Field Execution

The connections of high voltage must be made following strict field protocols and technical guidelines. The right mechanical tools, combined with methodical visual inspections, are a must for field teams to ensure structural longevity.

     Match Tools and Lugs: Don't guess. Always use a calibrated hydraulic crimper with the exact die size recommended by the lug manufacturer.

     Show the Correct Length: Remove the cable jacket cleanly, but without nicking individual wire strands. The conductor should be filled to the top of the barrel without overfilling.

     Check the Joint is Complete: Do a physical pull-test; look for an even die bite mark along the barrel. For critical circuits, power up and look for abnormal resistance hot spots using thermal imaging tools.

Through rigorous quality control inspections at each step of the process, installation crews can eliminate the human factors that lead to electrical faults, ensuring that every joint performs to its maximum under maximum electrical loads.
