Achieving this level of precision requires medical gas blenders that are specifically designed for low flow rates and can maintain extreme accuracy even with variations in input pressures. Therefore, medical gas blenders used in neonatal care must be fail-safe and highly accurate, often incorporating alarms and safety interlocks to prevent unintended increases in oxygen concentration.

The development of blenders with digital displays and advanced control algorithms is providing clinicians with more intuitive and accurate control. The integration of oxygen analyzers and closed-loop control systems is a key trend, where the blender can automatically adjust the oxygen concentration to maintain a target SpO2 range, reducing the burden on clinical staff and improving safety. The trend towards non-invasive ventilation in neonates is also increasing the demand for portable blenders that can be integrated with CPAP and other support devices.
